The end of an era for YDW

A small, 'not for profit' organisation, working to promote awareness, appreciation and participation in Folk Arts in the community, YDW has helped to establish and develop community choirs, ceilidh bands and dance clubs, as well as encouraging young performers, players, singers and dancers at all levels. This has been, not only with the help of grants, but also with a tremendous amount of help from many who have given hours of free labour to enable us to make things happen. We are profoundly grateful to all of you who have helped.

Following 16 years of intensive activity promoting Folk Arts, Yorkshire Dales Workshop membership has decided it will not be seeking funding beyond the end of its current programme. This is, in part, a result of the difficulty of procuring grants in the present funding climate.

The lively two-day multi-cultural presentation of “Songs from Home” in Saltaire (in May 2008) and the current programme of Music Factory Workshops for youngsters in Otley, will mark the end of YDW as a limited company. Hopefully the Music Factory will re-convene under new management in the Autumn and will continue long into the future.

This web site - www.ydw.org.uk will continue to be published throughout 2008-9 with links to folk arts organisations and activities and with information about the annual Scandinavian Festival and regular weekly and monthly activities initiated by YDW (now continuing independently).

Publications (books, CDs, videos, multimedia learning resources) published initially by YDW from material supplied by the tutors and performers contributing to our residential weekends, continue to be available and provide a valuable resource reaching beyond the initial impact of the workshops.
